SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT:

Position: Senior Staff Accountant
Location: Salinas, CA
Reports to: Accounting Manager
FLSA status: Salary, Non-exempt
General Scope: To provide accounting support to the accounting and finance team of Monterey Gourmet Foods. Take direction and receive projects from various team members relating to the financial goals of the company.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Fixed assets maintenance and depreciation
• Maintain database for capital requests
• Prepare month-end journal entries
• Profit and loss analysis
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare quarterly sales/use tax forms
• Periodic review general ledger coding
• Assist with quarterly audits
• Ad-hoc accounting projects
• Assist with budget preparation
• Review accrued liabilities accounts for accuracy
• Assist cost accountant with new product pricing and review
• Update and maintain inventory costing system
• Prepare weekly and monthly management reports
Qualifications we look for:
• A degree in accounting or finance
• 2 - 4 years general accounting experience with a public company
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
• Strong analytical skills
• Manufacturing inventory experience is a plus
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products especially Excel

General Scope: To provide administrative support to the retail sales team for Monterey Gourmet Foods. Support Regional Sales team with reporting, product information, product samples, and sales materials as well as provide general administrative support to the VP of Retail Sales.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Keeps all forms and product/company information current
• Update monthly sales reports
• Track promotional spending
• Maintain contact information
• Maintain sales binders, sales sheets, selling information and pricing sheet
• Schedules and coordinates meetings
• Tracks and updates product ranking, customer ranking, sales trend reports from Monterey Intranet
• Tracks sales trends, sales ranking
• Assists sales staff with communication to brokers and distributors
• Create/Assist in Powerpoint presentations
• Support liaison to production and marketing
• Communication on new products, pricing, and additional product information
• Maintain Point of Sale Material
• Review coupon redemption
• Sales contact for internal information. Represents sales in weekly cross department meeting

Responsibilities: Lead a group of Quality Department technicians on the day shift reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager.
Duties include but not limited to the following:
• Training and evaluation of QA staff on plant operations.
• Pre-operation inspection of equipment and facility.
• Quality checks in production present findings to QA Manager.
• Ensure lab techs are following Quality procedures, policies and work instructions.
• Review of HACCP records and communication of issues to QA Manager.
• Resolution of quality issues reported by QC Technicians.
• Communication of quality issues or opportunities to QA Manager.
• Tracking of samples sent to outside laboratories.
• Assist with GMP audits of plant and surrounding area.
• Data entry using common computer database software (Excel, Access or equivalent).
• Monitoring organic and allergen labels and assuring that allergens are labeled and segregated in warehouse.
Requirements:
• B.S. Degree in Food Science, or Microbiology
• Training in GMP’s and the concepts of HACCP
• USDA experience a plus
• Training in food microbiology, sanitation, and food safety
• Training in identification and monitoring of allergens
• Ability to use software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access or equivalent

• Review of HACCP records and communication of issues to QA Manager.
• Resolution of quality issues reported by QC Leads and Technicians.
• Communication of quality issues or opportunities to QA Manager.
• Communication with USDA inspector regarding HACCP or GMP issues for meat and poultry products.
• Tracking of samples sent to outside laboratories.
• Implementation of new policies, procedures or work instructions distributed through the Director of Quality Assurance and QA Manager.
• Review and disposition of product on quality hold with input by QA Manager.
• Data entry using common computer database software (Excel, Access or equivalent).
• Communication to third party Pest Control Company regarding pest control requirements of the plant.
• Monitoring allergen labels and assuring that allergens are labeled and segregated in warehouse.

Requirements:
• B.S. Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or 5 years experience in the areas Quality Assurance or Quality Control
• Training in GMP’s and the concepts of HACCP
• Training in food microbiology, sanitation, and food safety
• Training in identification and monitoring of allergens
• Ability to use software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access or equivalent
• At least one year experience as a QC Lead
• Fully familiar with all responsibilities of the QC Technicians and Leads for all stations (production, packaging)
• Fully familiar with laboratory testing
• Speak English, bi-lingual a plus
• Basic math skills to include calculation of percent and multiplication
